Remembering Ari Vaarnas

With sadness and heavy hearts we mourn the passing of our friend and colleague Ari Vaarnas.

Before Fad Games, Ari was a friend with who we shared interests not just in video games, but card games as well. His support was instrumental in founding the company, so it was fitting that he also became the first employee.

His sense of humor and understanding of adventure-game mechanics inspired and delighted all of us, especially with the upcoming Iron Sky: Cold War game. I don’t know if he ever expected to find himself making an educational game, but he was great at it. He truly was an essential part of the Social Media Detectives team, for which he received high praise from our collaborators.

While work seems meaningless in the face of loosing a friend, I like knowing that his jokes and ideas live on in the games, helping kids stay safe online (I bet he would have never expected to read those words) and helping the rest of us laugh in the face of corrupt authoritarians.

Ari’s contributions to our company and our lives will never be forgotten, and we will miss him dearly.
